Start with Protein Drink Mix

Mix 2 tablespoons (28 g) with 250 ml cold water: 108 kcal and 15 g protein per serving.

Use it three ways: on its own between meals, stirred into your Formula 1 shake for a higher-protein shake, or as a snack when an earlier meal was light on protein. The label suggests mid-morning or mid-afternoon as easy moments.

How much protein?

UK dietitians give about 0.75 g per kilogram of body weight a day for adults who do not train, and about 1.4 to 2.0 g per kilogram with regular strength or endurance training.

Spread it through the day

Protein is usually easier to manage when it’s spread across meals and snacks instead of left until dinner.

Lunch

Chicken, fish, beans or the protein you already cook

Between meals

Protein Drink Mix on its own, or a Protein Bar when you are out

Dinner

Protein on the plate, without leaving the whole day to this meal

Protein in your everyday meals

Your normal meals and your shakes work together. Each of these is roughly 20 g of protein (British Dietetic Association examples):

Protein Drink Mix adds 15 g whenever a meal or snack needs more.

Worth knowing

Practical tips

  • Spread it out: protein at most meals beats one big dinner.
  • Protein Drink Mix works with water alone, so no full shake is needed.
  • Stir it into Formula 1 for a higher-protein breakfast.
  • Keep a Protein Bar in your bag for days away from the kitchen.
  • Rebuild Strength is for after the gym, not an everyday protein powder.
What you actually need

Your protein options

Protein Drink Mix is the everyday protein product. Formula 1 adds protein as part of a complete meal, Protein Bars travel with you, and Rebuild Strength is kept for after the gym.

Common questions

How much protein do I broadly need?
Broad population ranges, not a personal number: about 0.75 g per kilogram of body weight a day for adults who do not train, and about 1.4 to 2.0 g per kilogram with regular training (British Dietetic Association).
Do body weight and activity change that?
Yes. Both ranges scale with body weight, and a heavier training week needs more protein and more food overall, not just an extra scoop. Not sure where you sit? Ask Keely.
Is Protein Drink Mix the same as Formula 1?
No. Formula 1 is a meal replacement; Protein Drink Mix is a protein top-up, on its own or stirred into a shake.
When should I use Rebuild Strength instead?
After resistance or anaerobic training, mixed with water and drunk within 30 minutes of finishing. Protein Drink Mix is the everyday option for any other time. More in Gym & Muscle.
Can I combine shakes with normal meals?
Yes, that is the idea. Eggs, chicken, fish, yoghurt, beans and lentils each give roughly 20 g of protein per portion, and Protein Drink Mix adds 15 g whenever a meal or snack needs more.
Should I spread protein through the day?
Usually, yes. Three or four protein-containing meals or snacks are easier than fitting it all into dinner.
Do I need the same routine on a rest day?
Spread protein across your Herbalife shakes and normal meals. Protein Drink Mix can support your daily intake; keep Rebuild Strength for recovery after resistance or anaerobic training.
